Monoethanolamine (MEA) is an important chemical raw material with a variety of properties and applications. Monoethanolamine, also known as monoethanolamine or 2-aminoethanol, has a chemical formula of HOCH2CH2NH2 or C2H7NO and is a primary amine organic compound. It is a colorless viscous liquid with an ammonia smell, is strongly alkaline, has active chemical properties, is hygroscopic, toxic, flammable and corrosive.
The physical properties of monoethanolamine include a relative density of 1.0180, a melting point of 10.5°C, and a boiling point of 170°C. It is easily soluble in water, methanol, ethanol and acetone, and slightly soluble in ether. It is stable at room temperature, but may release absorbed gases when heated.
The chemical properties of monoethanolamine are active, and it can form salts with inorganic and organic acids, and react with acid anhydrides to form esters. The hydrogen atoms in its amino group can be replaced by acyl halides, alkyl halides, etc. In chemical reactions, monoethanolamine can be used as a solvent, surfactant, and is used in industrial processes such as decarbonization and desulfurization, and in the manufacture of fungicides and detergents.

In personal care products, monoethanolamine is used in eyeliner, mascara, eye shadow, blush, base makeup, and foundation, etc.
