Dioctyl phthalate (DOP) is a commonly used plasticizer and belongs to the ester class of organic compounds. It is a colorless, transparent liquid with a special smell. It is insoluble in water, glycerin, and ethylene glycol, but soluble in most organic solvents. DOP is widely used in the plastic manufacturing industry, especially in the processing of polyvinyl chloride (PVC). It can significantly improve the plastic's softness, cold resistance, and electrical properties. In addition, DOP is also used as a gas chromatography stationary liquid. Its application in the chemical industry, especially in the PVC industry, accounts for as much as 80%-90%. Although DOP is not a hazardous chemical, it should be stored separately from oxidants and acids to avoid mixed storage12.
