Diacetone alcohol (DAA), also known as diacetone alcohol, is a white or slightly yellow transparent liquid with an aromatic odor. Its physical properties include a melting point of -44°C, a boiling point between 164°C and 167.9°C, a flash point of 13°C, a relative density of 0.9387 (20°C), and a refractive index of 1.4232. Diacetone alcohol is soluble in water, ethanol, ether, and chloroform, but is unstable and easily reacts with alkali or decomposes during atmospheric distillation. It easily polymerizes when stored for a long time at room temperature.

The production process of diacetone alcohol is mainly obtained by the condensation reaction of acetone under alkaline conditions. It has a wide range of uses, including but not limited to the preparation of metal cleaners, wood preservatives, preservatives for photographic films and drugs, antifreeze agents, hydraulic oil solvents, extractants, and fiber finishing agents. In addition, diacetone alcohol is also widely used as a solvent for electrostatic spray paint, celluloid, nitrocellulose, fats, greases, waxes, and resins. Due to its high boiling point and low viscosity, it is also used as a solvent and paint stripper for cellulose ester paints, printing inks, synthetic resin coatings, etc. In the cosmetics field, diacetone alcohol is used as a high boiling point solvent for cosmetics such as nail polish, and is usually used as a mixed solvent with low boiling point solvents and medium boiling point solvents to obtain a suitable evaporation rate and viscosity12.
