Mono ethylene glycol (MEG). Chemical formula is (CH2OH)2, is the simplest dihydric alcohol. Glycol is intersoluble with water and and is used as a solvent, antifreeze and raw material in the synthesis of polyester.
MEG is mainly used in making polyester, polyester resin, hygroscopic agent, plasticizer, surfactant, synthetic fiber, cosmetics, as solvent for dyes, inks, etc., antifreeze agent for engine, dehydrating agent for gas, manufacturing resin, wetting agent for cellophane, fiber, leather and adhesive. It can produce synthetic resin PET, fiber grade PET namely polyester fiber, bottle chip grade PET for making mineral water bottle, etc. Also can produce alkyd resin, glyoxal, etc., also used as antifreeze. In addition to being used as an automobile antifreeze, it is also used in the transportation of industrial cooling capacity, commonly called as a refrigerant carrier. At the same time, it can also be used as a condensate like water.
