Introduction
Dimethylamine, also known as N,N-dimethylamine, is a pale yellow liquid that is gaseous at room temperature due to its low boiling point (6.9°C). When it is highly concentrated or compressed and liquefied, it has a strong and unpleasant ammonia smell, and when the concentration is extremely low, it has the stench of fish oil. Due to its flammable and explosive properties, it is often prepared into a 40% aqueous solution, namely "industrial dimethylamine aqueous solution", for the convenience of transportation and use. This aqueous solution is not only convenient to manufacture, transport and use, but also safe and energy-saving, so it has been widely used in industry.
Physical and chemical properties of dimethylamine
The molecular structure of dimethylamine contains a nitrogen atom and two methyl groups, which gives it unique chemical properties. First, dimethylamine is an alkaline substance that can react with acid to form corresponding salts, such as reacting with hydrochloric acid to form dimethylamine hydrochloride (CAS number: 506-59-2). Secondly, dimethylamine is easily soluble in water and organic solvents such as ethanol and ether. Preparation method
Methanol amination method: This is the most commonly used preparation method in the chemicalbook industry. This method uses methanol and liquid ammonia as raw materials, reacts under high temperature and high pressure and the action of a catalyst to generate dimethylamine and water. This reaction is a reversible reaction. In order to increase the yield, an excess of methanol and liquid ammonia is usually used, and the appropriate reaction temperature and pressure are controlled. Methylamine dehydrogenation method: Using methylamine as a raw material, a dehydrogenation reaction is carried out under the action of a catalyst to generate dimethylamine and water. This method requires a higher reaction temperature and pressure, and the choice of catalyst has an important influence on the reaction effect.
Uses
Rubber industry: Dimethylamine is an important raw material for rubber vulcanization accelerators, which can significantly increase the vulcanization speed and vulcanization effect of rubber, thereby improving the physical and mechanical properties of rubber. Pesticide production: Dimethylamine is an important intermediate for pesticides, and can be used to prepare a variety of fungicides, insecticides and herbicides, such as thiram and cypermethrin. These pesticides play an important role in agricultural production and are of great significance to ensuring food security and agricultural production safety. Pharmaceutical industry: Dimethylamine and its derivatives are also widely used in the pharmaceutical field, such as as precursors or intermediates for drug synthesis, and participate in the synthesis of a variety of biologically active compounds.
