Anhydrous borax, chemical name is sodium tetraborate, alias anhydrous borax, molecular formula is Na2B4O7, molecular weight is 201.22. Anhydrous borax is white crystal or glass, density is 2.28 (α orthorhombic crystal) or 2.75 (β orthorhombic crystal), melting point is 742.5ºC and 664ºC respectively. It is hygroscopic, soluble in water, slowly soluble in methanol, can form a solution with a concentration of 13-16%, its aqueous solution is weakly alkaline, insoluble in alcohol.

Chemical properties
Anhydrous borax exhibits strong hygroscopicity in chemical properties, and its aqueous solution is weakly alkaline. It decomposes at high temperatures, with a boiling point of 1575ºC. Anhydrous borax is insoluble in alcohol, but can be dissolved in water to form a solution with a concentration of 13-16%.

Other uses: also used as a retarder for cement and concrete, a pH buffer in water systems, an emulsifier for paraffin, etc.
Anhydrous borax is the basic raw material for the preparation of boron-containing compounds. Almost all boron-containing compounds can be prepared from borax.
