Dibenzoylmethane, chemical name 1,3-diphenyl-1,3-propanedione, molecular formula C15H1202, molecular weight 224.25. It is an aromatic inter-diketone, a derivative of acetylacetone in which the hydrogen on the methyl group is replaced by a phenyl group
Physical properties
Dibenzoylmethane is usually a colorless rhombic flaky crystal with a melting point of 77-79°C and a boiling point of 219-221°C. It is easily soluble in chlorohydrin, soluble in sodium hydroxide solution, but insoluble in sodium carbonate solution, and slightly soluble in water
Use
Dibenzoylmethane is mainly used as a co-stabilizer for calcium/zinc hydroxy acid salt stabilization system and is widely used in the manufacture of PVC mineral water bottles. In addition, it can also be used as an analytical reagent for the determination of carbon disulfide and thallium, gravimetric determination of uranium, photometric determination of U+4, and extraction of silver, aluminum, barium, beryllium, calcium, cadmium, cobalt, copper, iron, gallium, indium, lanthanum, magnesium, manganese, nickel, lead, palladium, scandium, thorium, titanium, zinc, zirconium and other elements
Preparation method
Dibenzoylmethane can be obtained by bromination and hydrolysis of benzylideneacetylbenzene as raw material.
