Potassium dihydrogen phosphate, with the chemical formula KH2PO4, is an inorganic compound. It is a white crystalline powder with deliquescent properties. When heated to 400°C, it melts into a transparent liquid and solidifies into an opaque glassy potassium metaphosphate after cooling. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate is soluble in water, with a solubility of 83.5g/100ml water at 90°C. The aqueous solution is acidic, and the pH value of 1% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution is 4.6. It is insoluble in ethanol.
Uses
Potassium dihydrogen phosphate is used as a buffer and culture agent in industry. It is also used as a flavoring agent for synthetic sake as a bacterial culture agent, a raw material for potassium metaphosphate, a culture agent, a fortifier, a bulking agent, and a fermentation aid for brewing yeast. In agriculture, potassium dihydrogen phosphate is used as a high-efficiency phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer.
