Propylene glycol monomethyl ether acetate (PGMEA), also known as propylene glycol methyl ether acetate, is a colorless hygroscopic liquid with a characteristic odor. It is a non-hazardous solvent with multiple functional groups. Its chemical formula is C6H12O3. It is flammable and may form explosive vapor/air mixtures above 42°C. The main uses of PGMEA include as a solvent for printing inks, paints, inks, textile dyes and textile oils. It is also used as a cleaning agent in the production of liquid crystal displays. In addition, it has good thermal stability and low toxicity. It is widely used in the coating industry as a diluent and leveling agent to improve the coating's coating properties, fluidity and adhesion. Almost all fiber and resin varnishes and latexes use PGMEA as a solvent. In the field of plastics, PGMEA acts as a plasticizer to help improve the flexibility, ductility and strength of plastics.
