Sodium xylene sulfonate is a white crystalline powder with a petroleum-like odor, flammable and susceptible to moisture. It is a surfactant with a variety of uses, especially in the manufacture of daily detergents, as a new type of efficient, low-toxic detergent solubilizer conditioner. The chemical formula of sodium xylene sulfonate is C8H9NaO3S, the molecular weight is 208.21, the melting point is 27ºC, the boiling point is 157ºC, the density is 1.17g/mL (25ºC), the refractive index is n20/D 1.405, and the water solubility is 40g/100ml (20ºC).

The main uses of sodium xylene sulfonate include:

Solubilizer: used as a solubilizer in detergents, and also used as a component of dry cleaning agents, bactericides, metal processing cleaning agents, etc.
Coupler, hydrotrope, leveler, dispersant: In liquid detergents, sodium xylene sulfonate can be used as a coupler, hydrotrope, leveler, dispersant, and helps reduce cloud point and viscosity.
Viscosity reducer, extractant: It has the effects of viscosity reduction and extraction, and is suitable for daily detergents and industrial cleaning products.
