Stearic acid amide is a neutral granular solid that is insoluble in water but slightly soluble in organic solvents at room temperature. It has many excellent properties, including improving the dispersion effect of dyes and pigments, good affinity and adhesion, lubricity and demoulding, and non-hygroscopicity
Chemical properties
The chemical formula of stearic acid amide is C18H37N0, and the molecular weight is 283.4925. It is a white or light yellow powder or flake, insoluble in water, difficult to dissolve in cold ethanol, but soluble in hot ethanol, ether and other organic solvents.
Application areas
Plastic processing: Stearic acid amide is widely used as a lubricant and mold release agent for plastics such as polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and polystyrene, and has excellent external lubrication and mold release properties
Rubber processing: In synthetic rubber or natural rubber, stearic acid amide is used as an internal mold release agent and lubricant to improve the processing properties of the rubber and give the product a good gloss
Film manufacturing: As an anti-blocking agent for polyolefin films, it is usually used in combination with oleic acid amide and erucic acid amide, which does not affect the transparency of the product
Other applications: Stearic acid amide can also be used as a softening raw material for textiles, an anti-blocking coating additive for adhesive tape protective films, etc.
Safety
Stearic acid amide is non-toxic, has high insulation resistance, can remain stable at 150C, and does not absorb moisture. These characteristics make it also used in food and pharmaceutical packaging materials
