Solubility: Easily soluble in organic solvents (such as acetone, ether). Reacts rapidly with water to form maleic acid.

There are two main methods for the industrial production of maleic anhydride:
Benzene oxidation: Maleic anhydride is produced by air oxidation of benzene in the presence of catalysts such as vanadium-molybdenum. This is a traditional production process with mature technology but high raw material costs.
N-Butane oxidation: Maleic anhydride is produced by air oxidation of petrochemical product n-butane in the presence of a vanadium-phosphorus oxide catalyst. This method, with its low-cost raw materials and environmental friendliness, has become the mainstream production process. IV. Major Applications

Plastics Industry: Used in the production of unsaturated polyester resin (UPR), a key raw material for fiberglass, artificial marble, and coatings.
Pharmaceuticals and Pesticides: Used as an intermediate in the synthesis of antibiotics, fungicides, and herbicides, such as chlorpheniramine maleate (an antiallergic).
