Acetonitrile is an organic compound with the chemical formula C2H3N. It is a colorless and transparent liquid at room temperature. It has excellent solvent properties and is miscible with a variety of organic, inorganic and gaseous substances, and is infinitely miscible with water and alcohol.
The physical properties of acetonitrile include: melting point of -45°C, boiling point of 81-82°C, density of 0.786 g/mL, pungent odor, easy volatility, relative density of 0.79 (water = 1), and is a highly polar organic solvent.
Acetonitrile is widely used in many fields. In chemical analysis and instrumental analysis, acetonitrile is used as an organic modifier and solvent for thin layer chromatography, paper chromatography, spectroscopy and polarographic analysis. In the pharmaceutical industry, acetonitrile is used to synthesize intermediates for a variety of medicines and pesticides, such as vitamin B1, metronidazole, etc. In addition, acetonitrile is also used in metal surface treatment, preparation of new energy materials, and semiconductor cleaning.
