N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) is a colorless, transparent liquid with a chemical formula of C3H7NO. It is a widely used chemical raw material and excellent solvent. It can be mixed with water and most organic solvents at will, and has good solubility for a variety of organic and inorganic compounds.
The main characteristics of DMF include its non-protonic polarity, which can dissolve most organic and inorganic substances, and is miscible with water, alcohols, ethers, aldehydes, ketones, esters, halogenated hydrocarbons and aromatic hydrocarbons. The positively charged end of its molecule is surrounded by methyl groups, forming a spatial barrier that prevents negative ions from approaching, thereby associating positive ions, making many ionic reactions easier to carry out in DMF than in general protic solvents.
DMF has a wide range of applications, including but not limited to:
Plastics industry: used in plastic film, paint, fiber and other industries;
Textile industry: used as a dye solvent;
Electronic industry: used as a paint stripper for removing paint;
Pharmaceutical industry: used in the production of vitamins, hormones.
Pesticide industry: used in the synthesis of high-efficiency and low-toxic pesticides and insecticides;
Others: used in the synthesis of drug intermediates, cleaning of circuit boards, etc.
