Potassium dihydrogen phosphate, with the chemical formula KH2PO4, is an inorganic compound. It is a white crystalline powder with a relative density of 2.338 g/cm3 and a melting point of 252.6ºC. Potassium dihydrogen phosphate is easily soluble in water, with a solubility of 83.5g/100ml water at 90ºC. The aqueous solution is acidic, and the pH value of 1% potassium dihydrogen phosphate solution is 4.6. It is insoluble in ethanol, melts into a transparent liquid when heated to 400C, and solidifies into an opaque glassy potassium metaphosphate after cooling.
Uses
Potassium dihydrogen phosphate is used as a buffer and culture agent in industry. It is also used as a flavoring agent for synthetic sake as a bacterial culture agent, a raw material for potassium metaphosphate, a culture agent, a fortifier, a bulking agent, and a fermentation aid for brewing yeast. In agriculture, potassium dihydrogen phosphate is used as a high-efficiency phosphorus-potassium compound fertilizer. In addition, potassium dihydrogen phosphate is also widely used as a food additive, especially in potassium dihydrogen phosphate, a food additive made from thermal phosphoric acid and potassium hydroxide.
