Manganese dihydrogen phosphate, also known as Marif salt or acid manganese phosphate, is a white to off-white or reddish crystalline powder. Its chemical formula is Mn(H2PO4)2, molecular weight is 284.94, CAS number is 18718-07-5
Chemical properties
Manganese dihydrogen phosphate will undergo hydrolysis when dissolved in water to form flocculent precipitates. Its aqueous solution is acidic and insoluble in alcohol. It is hygroscopic, easily deteriorates when in contact with oxides, and dehydrates to anhydrous at temperatures above 100°C
Uses
Manganese dihydrogen phosphate is mainly used as a phosphating agent for steel rust prevention, especially for large mechanical equipment rust prevention. In the defense industry, it is also used as a lubricating layer and protective layer for various weapons, etc. In addition, it can also be used as a sensitizer for fluorescent powders
Preparation method
Manganese dihydrogen phosphate can be prepared by two main methods:
Manganese carbonate method: Phosphoric acid and manganese carbonate are mixed in a certain proportion for reaction, impurities are removed by clarification, and then acid manganese phosphate is obtained by concentration, crystallization, and centrifugal separation.
Manganese sulfate method: Manganese sulfate reacts with soda ash to form manganese carbonate, which is then washed and reacted with phosphoric acid to form acid manganese phosphate. The mixture is heated to 70-80°C, and barium carbonate is added to remove sulfate. After clarification for 24 hours, the residue is removed by suction, and the filtrate is concentrated, crystallized, and centrifuged to obtain acid manganese phosphate.
