Cetyl alcohol, also known as palmityl alcohol or cetyl alcohol, has a chemical formula of C16H34O and a molecular weight of 242.441. The CAS number of cetyl alcohol is 36653-82-4. It usually appears as white leaf-like crystals, granules or waxy blocks with a slight fragrance.

Basic properties Melting point: 49~51°C (sometimes documented as 49.3°C, 49.6°C or 50°C) Boiling point: 310.9±5.0°C at 760 mmHg (sometimes documented as 312°C, 344°C, etc.) Density: 0.8±0.1 g/cm³ (sometimes documented as 0.835 g/mL, 20/20°C, or 0.8179, or 0.8176 g/mL, 50/4°C)
Flash point: 135±0.0°C (some documents record it as 135ºC)
Solubility: Insoluble in water, but soluble in ethanol, ether.

Physical and chemical properties Cetyl alcohol is stable under normal conditions, will not decompose, and has no dangerous reactions. It easily forms esters with inorganic and organic acids. Although it is not very toxic, it is irritating to the eyes, skin, mucous membranes, and upper respiratory tract. Experiments show that it has a weak tumor-promoting effect on mice.

Uses
Cetyl alcohol is widely used in many fields:
