Dimer acid, usually refers to dimer fatty acid, is a complex mixture, colorless and transparent liquid. Its chemical formula is C36H64O4, molecular weight is 560.91, relative density is 0.95, and flash point is between 280-350ºC. Dimer acid is soluble in acetone, ethanol, ether, aliphatic, naphtha and almost all other solvents. Preparation method Dimer acid is mainly obtained by high temperature and high pressure reaction of unsaturated fatty acids (such as oleic acid and linoleic acid) under the action of catalyst, and then the pure product is obtained by molecular distillation. Commonly used raw materials include vegetable oil foot, soybean oil, cottonseed oil, etc. Physical properties Pure dimer acid is a light yellow transparent viscous liquid with excellent thermal stability. It does not crystallize at -20ºC and does not evaporate at 250ºC. Contact with metal ions (such as copper and iron ions) will promote color deterioration. Hydrogenated dimer acid is an almost colorless transparent liquid, and its color does not deepen easily when heated.
