N-tetradecane is a colorless, flammable liquid with a chemical formula of C14H30 and a molecular weight of 198.39. It behaves as a colorless liquid at room temperature, has 1858 isomers, is generally a non-polar molecule, and is therefore insoluble in water but soluble in ethanol. The physical properties of n-tetradecane include: density of 0.7653, melting point of 5.5°C, boiling point of 253.5°C, refractive index of 1.4302 (20°C), and flash point of 100°C12.
N-tetradecane is mainly used in organic synthesis, as a solvent and standard hydrocarbon. It is also used to produce tetradecane, and has applications in liquid mosquito coils, hydraulic oil for large stamping machines, chlorinated paraffin, anti-corrosion coatings, powder coatings, etc. In addition, derivatives of n-tetradecane, such as linear polyanhydrides of tetradecane dibasic acid, have important applications in the chemical and pharmaceutical fields, such as epoxy and propylene resin curing agents, polyester modification additives, etc.
