Potassium pyrophosphate (KPP) is an important inorganic compound with a chemical formula of K4P2O7 and a molecular weight of 330.337.
Basic properties
Potassium pyrophosphate is a white powder or crystal that is hygroscopic and easily absorbs moisture in the air. Its melting point is 1109ºC and its density is 2.534g/cm³. Potassium pyrophosphate is soluble in water, but insoluble in ethanol and ether. The aqueous solution is alkaline with a pH value of about 10.2
Uses
Potassium pyrophosphate has many uses:
Electroplating industry: mainly used for cyanide-free electroplating, as a complexing agent and pretreatment agent for electroplating, replacing toxic cyanide and reducing environmental pollution
Agriculture: used to prepare high-potassium solid water-soluble fertilizers with high content of macroelements
Cleaning agents and detergents: used to prepare cleaning agents and detergents, with descaling and anti-corrosion effects
Food industry: used as emulsifiers, tissue improvers, chelating agents and quality improvers
Ceramics, pigments and dyes industry: used as clay dispersants, dispersants and buffers
Bleaching and dyeing industry: used to remove trivalent iron ions in water and improve the quality of bleaching and dyeing
