Methacrylamide is an organic compound with the chemical formula of C4H7N0, also known as 2-methylacrylamide or 2-methyl-2-propenamid.

Physical properties
Methacrylamide is a white crystal at room temperature, and the industrial product is slightly yellow. Its physical properties include:
Melting point: 106-110ºC Boiling point: 215ºC
Density: 1.115 g/cm3 Flash point: 215ºC
Solubility: easily soluble in water, methanol, ethanol, acetone, ethyl acetate, etc., slightly soluble in ether, insoluble in petroleum ether.

Chemical properties
Methacrylamide has two active centers, double bond and amide group, so its chemical properties are active and can undergo a series of reactions such as double bond addition, polymerization, and alkylation. In addition, methacrylamide can undergo polymerization reaction at high temperature, releasing a large amount of heat. It is flammable when exposed to open flames and high temperatures, and releases toxic gases such as carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, and nitrogen oxides when burned.

Uses
Methacrylamide is mainly used in the following aspects:
Organic synthesis: used as an intermediate to produce methyl methacrylate and polyamide polymers
Industrial application: used as a raw material for graft polymerization in elastic exterior wall coatings.
Silk processing: used as a weight-increasing modifier after silk degumming and before dyeing and finishing to compensate for the weight loss caused by degumming and improve the appearance of silk.
