Iminodiacetic acid is an organic compound with the chemical formula C4H7NO4. This compound has a variety of uses, mainly as a raw material for pesticides, rubber and aminocarboxylic acid complexes, especially as a raw material for glyphosate in large quantities. The physical properties of iminodiacetic acid include a white crystalline appearance, a melting point of 243°C, a boiling point of 370.6°C, and a solubility of 2.43 g/100 ml in water at 5°C. It is not easily soluble in acetone, methanol, ethanol, benzene and cyclohexane, but can react with bases to form salts and chelate with many metals. In addition, iminodiacetic acid also has industrial application value, such as as an important raw material and intermediate in the rubber and electroplating industries, and is also used as an intermediate for surfactants and complexing agents12.
Iminodiacetic acid and its derivatives also have other applications, such as as pharmaceutical intermediates and diagnostic reagents, and as a desulfurizer for water gas and semi-water gas in the production of synthetic ammonia. It can also be used as a dye intermediate and a biological buffer. In addition, some derivatives of iminodiacetic acid, such as disodium iminodiacetic acid, are used as pesticide intermediates.
