Omeprazole (H 16868) is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) with potential for the study of gastrointestinal diseases. Omeprazole competitively inhibits CYP2C19 activity with a Ki of 2 to 6 μM. Omeprazole also inhibits the growth of both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Omeprazole is an inhibitor of neutral sphingomyelinase (N-SMase) (exosome inhibitor).
