Structural characteristics
It is obtained by the esterification reaction of the hydroxyl group of α-tocopherol (vitamin E) with acetic acid. α-tocopherol itself has a chromanol ring and a phytol side chain. The introduction of the acetate group increases the stability and fat solubility of the molecule.
Physical and chemical properties
Appearance: Usually a colorless to slightly yellow transparent viscous liquid, which may solidify into a waxy solid at low temperatures.
Solubility: Easily soluble in organic solvents such as ethanol, ether,and insoluble in water.
Stability: Relatively stable, not easily oxidized, and more resistant to storage and processing than α-tocopherol. Under normal storage conditions, its active ingredients can be kept for a long time.
Application field
Medical field: As a drug, it is used to prevent and treat vitamin E deficiency, such as vitamin E deficiency anemia in premature infants and low-weight infants. It is also used as an auxiliary treatment for some cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, habitual abortion, infertility, etc.
