N-propanol, also known as 1-propanol, is an organic compound with the molecular formula C3H8O and molecular weight 60.10. It is a colorless and transparent liquid with the odor of ethanol and is soluble in water, ethanol and ether. It is obtained from ethylene by carbonyl synthesis of propionaldehyde, and then by reduction. Mainly used as a solvent, also can replace the lower boiling point of ethanol as a solvent, but also used in color layer analysis.
