Appearance and Properties:
White crystalline powder, odorless, bitter.
Easily soluble in water (1g/about 2ml water), soluble in ethanol, almost insoluble in ether.

Melting Point: About 218ºC (decomposition)
Acidity and Alkalinity: The aqueous solution is neutral or slightly acidic.
Stability:
Stable at room temperature, easily decomposed by acid, alkali or heat, and needs to be sealed and stored in a dry place.

3. Pharmacological effects and clinical applications
Pharmacological mechanism:
Similar to theophylline, it inhibits phosphodiesterase (PDE), reduces the hydrolysis of cyclic adenosine monophosphate (cAMP), increases the intracellular cAMP level, thereby relaxing bronchial smooth muscle, dilating coronary arteries, and has a certain diuretic effect.
It is less irritating to the gastrointestinal tract than theophylline and has better tolerance.
Clinical uses:
Respiratory diseases:
It is used to treat bronchial asthma, asthmatic bronchitis, obstructive pulmonary emphysema, etc., to relieve wheezing symptoms.
It can be used as an alternative to aminophylline, especially for patients who are intolerant to theophylline or have obvious gastrointestinal reactions.
Dyspnea caused by cardiogenic pulmonary edema: Improve symptoms by dilating blood vessels and increasing myocardial contractility.
Others: It has been used to relieve biliary colic (less commonly used).
