Basic information: Basic green is also known as basic green 4, malachite green, etc., with a molecular formula of C23H25ClN2, a molecular weight of 329.46, and a CAS number of 14426-28-9. It is a green chemical substance with flashing crystals.
Physical and chemical properties: It is easily soluble in water and ethanol, and the solution is blue-green. It is yellow in contact with concentrated sulfuric acid, and turns dark orange after dilution; and turns orange-brown after dilution. Its aqueous solution plus sodium hydroxide produces a white precipitate with green light, and the dyeing color does not change at a high temperature of 120ºC.
Uses
Textile industry: It is used for dyeing yarn, cotton cloth, wool fabrics, etc. It has good light fastness when dyeing acrylic fiber and diacetate fiber, and other fastness is also good. The fastness of dyeing wool, silk, and cotton fiber is slightly poor.
Papermaking industry: It can remove natural pigments, lignin, resin, etc. on fibers and improve the whiteness of paper.
Other fields: It can be used for dyeing leather and linen, coloring bamboo, wood, and paper, and making color lakes. It can also be used as a biological dye for dyeing cultural and educational supplies, pesticides, Buddhist incense, etc.
Hazards and control: Illegal vendors have used it to soak kelp and other foods to improve color and deceive consumers. This behavior seriously endangers human health and is a strictly prohibited illegal act.
