Dioctyl phthalate (DOP) is a commonly used plasticizer, widely used in industrial fields such as plastics and rubber. It is a colorless oily liquid with a special smell. It is insoluble in water, glycerin, and ethylene glycol, but soluble in most organic solvents12.
The chemical formula of dioctyl phthalate is C24H38O4, and the molecular weight is 390.56. Its melting point is -50ºC to -55ºC, and its boiling point is 386ºC. At 20ºC, the solubility of DOP in water is less than 0.01%, and it has good solubility in organic solvents13.
DOP is mainly used as a plasticizer for polyvinyl chloride resin, which can improve the flexibility and ductility of plastics. In addition, it is also used as a condensing agent, a friction reducer and a gas chromatography stationary liquid, with good comprehensive performance and high plasticizing efficiency.
