Polyvinyl butyral (PVB) is a synthetic resin formed by the condensation of polyvinyl alcohol and butyraldehyde under acid catalysis.
Basic properties
Appearance : Usually white powder or spherical porous particles .
Physical properties : Excellent transparency, solubility, light resistance, water resistance, heat resistance, cold resistance and film-forming properties .
Chemical properties : Contains functional groups and can undergo a variety of chemical reactions, such as saponification of acetyl groups and esterification of hydroxyl groups.
Application areas Safety glass : Used for windshields of automobiles and ships and window glass of high-rise buildings as interlayer materials to improve the impact resistance and safety of glass .
Coatings and adhesives : Manufacture of anti-corrosion coatings, metal primers, fabric treatment agents, etc. Others : Also used to manufacture ceramic flower paper, aluminum foil, electrical materials, fiberglass products, etc. Preparation method PVB is prepared mainly by condensation reaction of polyvinyl alcohol and butyraldehyde under acid catalysis . The reaction process includes two stages: low-temperature polymerization and high-temperature polymerization, and the final product is polyvinyl butyral.
Safety and storage
Safety: PVB is colorless, odorless, non-toxic and harmless, and can be used for printing inks for food containers and plastic packaging.
Storage: It should be stored in a dry and cool place, avoiding direct sunlight and heavy pressure. It can be stored for two years without deterioration.
